Appreciate – To grasp the nature, worth, quality or significance of; to value or admire highly; to judge with heightened perception or understanding; to recognize with gratitude (from Merriam-Webster Online)

As in the previous blog, when we are grateful for the things we have, it opens the door for more to come to us. This is also true for appreciation.

We open the door to more possibilities when we appreciate what we have in our lives and who we have in our lives.  When it comes to the “who”, we need to be vocal about it.  Telling people we appreciate them and why is a good thing; it makes them feel great, and it makes us feel good too.

Can you think of a time when you had a really bad day and someone told you something nice, anything nice? Think of it.  How did it make you feel?  Did it make you feel better?  Did it kind of reset your day?  I know that on days I’ve had that were otherwise rotten, it really was a kind of a reset and gave me a chance to catch my breath and start having a nice day.  Things started going better.

How often do you tell the people who you appreciate that you do and why you appreciate them? Most people can say, “Not as often as I would like to.” Well, every single day you have the opportunity to tell at least one person you appreciate them and why! It doesn’t even have to be someone you personally know; it can be the clerk at the customer service desk… or… what if it was the technical support representative on the other end of the phone? Think of it! So many people would have a better day (and possibly a better life) because YOU said you appreciated THEM!

It is often the smallest things we do, which we might think are otherwise petty and unnoticeable that make the biggest difference in other peoples’ lives. What if you had the chance to be that difference? And even better, what if you showing your appreciation to them makes you a better person too!? I kid you not, it will. The more you do it, and mean it, the better person you will become and people will see it and people will be magnetized to you (in good ways) and things will work out much more smoothly and you will have a happier life!

Try it, you’ll see.
