What’s On Your Plate?

August 4, 2010

A good friend of mine was sharing a piece of herself with me the other night over dinner and unknowingly gave me a wonderful tool I would love to share with you. I’d heard of it before many years ago, but had forgotten.

What do you have going on in your life right now? What is “on your plate”? Draw it. Really. Draw a plate, and make a pie chart of all the things you have to do, & places you go. Include there the time you actually spend doing it, whether it’s spending time with your family, at the gym, running errands, working, volunteering, cleaning your house or mowing the lawn. If you spend a lot of time doing something, it gets a bigger slice of the pie.

Is your plate full of things you LOVE to do? Do you have time to do the things you love to do? If not, what are some of the things on your plate that you’re not obligated to do and you’re not passionate about so you can put under the table and give to the dog (aka delegate to someone else or simply say “No thank you”)??? Get rid of those things and make room for the things you want to do and love to do!!

Time management is a big trouble spot for many, many people – no matter what their day is filled with doing. I can help you assess things and make room for the things you want to do. I can even help you figure out what it is you want to do! Everyone needs their slice of heaven.
